Free Internet Radio ~ WOTR ~ Way Out There Radio

Yeah! Check it out. Good music, awesome DJs. Originally started for the people of an online game called There. Even though most of the DJs no longer play that game very often they have decided to stick around and keep the excellent tunage going for anyone that wants to tune in. You can make requests or send shoutouts by sending an IM through Yahoo to whichever DJ is currently on. Except for DJ Otto. He is their automatic DJ run by the server and does not take too kindly to requests ;). But, I am working on trying to find a way to fix that. Gonna look into making a plug-in for Trillian that can parse an incoming message for keywords and then search Otto's database for a matching song. Maybe even have it use an electronic voice to announce who requested the song. LOL wouldn't that be a riot!

ROFLMFAO! I would die laughing if I heard something like that played on WOTR while OTTO was DJing.

Okay, time to get back to work.

GIMP is pretty sweet!

This is my first real attempt at using GIMP for Windows to create an image from scratch. I followed a tutorial provided by Tigert. However, as you can see, I made a couple of small changes. Learning GIMP for Windows is fairly difficult as all the tutorials are for pre-2.0 and mainly written for Linux users. As such some of the commands are not in the same places and do not appear to function quite the way the tutorial writers indicate with their screen shots.

Apache is a pain in the arse

I am trying to get my system set up so that I can use Visual Studio .Net with Apache. From what I can see, that is not possible as VS requires IIS be installed in order to create web applications within it. I could go back to the old stand-by (NoteTab) but that makes it a pain in the ass to code, as well as debugging.

Unfortunately running IIS within Windows XP Home is not an option. I am looking for some feedback from anyone that has been able to get VS to work directly with Apache. I thought about going to WebMatrix. But, then I do not get IntelliSense or seperate code files. Everything is coded using inline <script> tags instead of in a seperate code file. To me this is just messy, ugly and unprofessional looking. Did I mention no IntelliSense?! That is very important.

So, until I get this figured out, or find an alternate solution, my web site will have to be put on hold. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.

I'm a bit pissed off. I can only work with what I've got, right? ...and what I've got right now, all I've had for the last two months really, is possibilities...fucking maybes. Maybe is a word without confidence, a way out for those who spend all their time obscuring their potential, by being vague or pissy. So many people are so concerned by how they might be perceived, so afraid of failure, that they take the easy route everytime, they shoe horn-themselves into their unhappy lives, shedding the broken bones of their aspirations along the way, like a snake skin which in turn appears to shed the snake

And it makes me sad. Sad, and frustrated and stressed and angrier than a three legged hippo looking at an umbrella stand!

I hear what your saying, David. I have been in a similar situation for the past 18 months. Layed off from my job due to site closures and unable to obtain a job that I give a flying fuck about since then. Software programming is my passion. But, I have not been able to get a job doing it. I have so much potential to give to any employer. So many possibilities.

Maybe...just maybe...

This is me! :)

Getting Blogger set up

Well, I have made a resolution for 2005 to post here at least once per week. Sometimes I will write, and other times I will post an audio blog. I am thinking of using the audio blog as a way of keeping track of ideas I come up with. As well as just posting random thoughts that come into my head. If anyone else out there is using the audioblogger capabilities for keeping track of ideas (rather than using it for "typical" blogging), please let me know how well that works for you and whether or not you have run into any problems using it in that way.

Introduction:

I am new to this whole blogging thing. So, please have mercy on me. ;)

I am a .NET programmer. However, I am currently unemployed. From time to time I will be posting ideas I have for applications. I appreciate any feedback anyone may have about these ideas. I am fairly new to programming, so bear with me.

A little bit later, I will be posting links to all the other blogs that I find useful and/or entertaining.
